New Ipswich Rock School is a Sell Out Success
Posted on October 4, 2019

A brand new music school for would-be rock stars has launched in Ipswich with ‘incredible demand’ for places.

All Star Rock School Ipswich is the first in what will be a UK-wide music school, catering for drummers, guitarists, vocalists and keyboard players from aged six upwards.

The tutor line up includes professionals who have toured with A-list bands and played at some of the world’s biggest venues and music festivals.

Ash Howard, co-founder and Ipswich head tutor is a professional drummer who has toured with bands including The Libertines and taught hundreds of students, many of whom who have gone on to have professional music careers. He says, “We have a vibrant music scene in Suffolk, and desperately needed a safe, creative space for young people to be able to learn to play, perform and learn about the music industry. The response has been amazing so far and we have an incredible team of tutors who, I believe will deliver an unparalleled experience for our students.”

Each two-hour session will include practical music tuition, followed by an hour-long live rock band experience, where students will get to perform the sets they have learned with their peers. The Ipswich school has already booked a live Christmas performance and has a range of extra-curricular activities planned, including gigs and live studio recording sessions.

Founder Trevor Wheatley-Perry, whose 13-year-old son Ben has been drumming since age eight, explains how the new rock school came about. “Kids who love music want to be in an exciting environment where they can perform with their peers and learn from switched on adults who have the experiences they aspire to, explains Trevor. “I couldn’t see anything in the area that ticked all the boxes so, with help from a team of experts, I decided to create my own brand. Our launch night in Ipswich was full, with a waiting list, so we are already extending availability for weekly sessions and planning additional dates. We will open our second All Star Rock School in Colchester later this month.

“It’s an exciting project that we hope will help produce some of Suffolk’s best future music talent, so watch this space!”

Junior and senior sessions take place at The Meeting Place, Limerick Close, Ipswich every Monday, with beginner and adult sessions coming soon. For more information visit https://allstarrockschool.com/ipswich/
